Bettor Off Single:
Why Commitment Is A Bad Gamble For Men

BY RAY CHARLES GORDON

The PUA Bootcamp Field Report From Hell

This is an amalgamation of most fears, and actual complaints, from the "target" market of men who wind up complaining that they've been scammed, conned, or worse:

Heads Up Bros!! Stay away from MegaPUA! First I bought his book for $99.97, which was just rehashed stuff from the free websites, and common sense. I then tried his $999.97 DVD set, which was so bad I almost laughed, until I remembered how much I had spent. Hoping to finally justify my emotional and financial investment in all this, I paid $9,999.97 for a VIP bootcamp, which was held in a venue where MegaPUA gets a club promoter's kickback, and this HB8.5763 he kiss-closed let slip that she was paid fifty bucks and three lines of coke, just like that TV show paid her to be a plant at a fake nightclub. Then I asked for a refund, halfway through the first day, as they required, at which point MegaPUA began strangling me, while threatening to sue me if I gave a bad review. He then said if I bought his next DVD set, he'd cut the price in half to $1,500.00. What a guy! I declined his offer, and now, everywhere I go on the internet, I get threatened and harassed, plus they lie about me, but they say they aren't being paid by the gurus and I believe them since it wouldn't print if it weren't true like everyone knows.

Just Because YOUR Guru Is A Con Artist...

If you knew that Bettor Off Single would show you the way to getting the most beautiful women you are humanly capable of, you would purchase it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, if you don't know what to do with women, you won't be capable of telling the good advice from the bad. This leads to customers using "emotional stereotyping" (a concept described in Bettor Off Single) in place of factual logic, with predictably disastrous results.

Ray's work selling gambling information has, unfortunately, prepared him for life as a seduction guru. Here's the Two For The Money version of the PUA scams:

HIM: "I need a winner. Help a brother out, man!"

RAY: "I charge for advice."

HIM: "No thanks, I already got scammed out of five grand by the last guy and I'm fifteen grand in the hole. I need a winner to bail me out."

RAY: "Let me get this straight: you gave five thousand dollars to one of my competitors, who sank you fifteen dimes in the hole, and now you want me to bail you out, free?"

HIM: "Um, Yeah."

There but for the grace of God...

What The "Seduction Community" Gurus Won't Tell You

Let's go lie by lie, omission by omission:

1. Stealth Marketing. Your "cool PUA blogger" friend who claims not to have money, and has a donation link on his blog is pulling down 50k a year or more in affiliate money, payola for good reviews.

2. Product Whoring. You'll often hear things like "the game has changed since 2005 and The Game and The Pickup Artist. Competition is tougher, and we must adapt." While this is always true, for any given point in time, what the guru omits is that a) his product offers nothing new, and was released b) only because he needed to sustain his "PUA lifestyle." Which leads to the next lie.

3. They get laid with the status and money that come with being "gurus," not with what they teach. Ray did not become a "relationship expert" in the 1990s secondary to any foresight of the internet market. That came in 1996; five years earlier, Ray began exploring PUA-style seduction, becuase Ray wanted something that worked, becuase I saw the methods used by the few PUAs I knew working, but most of all, for this:

HER: "What do you do for a living?"

RAY: "I teach men how to get beautiful women into bed, and [a later "PUA" addition] I teach women how to avoid the men I teach."

HER: "Oh really? How would you get ME into bed?"

Another favorite pickup line used by gurus on high-value women is this: "we have a lot in common; loser men pay our bills."

4. They got their "game" from OTHER MEN. Many men who never did "battle" with the world's sexiest women are merely theorizing about what works, or just parroting theory from someone like me, without any explanation of why the methods work, or how and why they evolved, usually to solve a specific problem, such as when Ray designed the pivot technique (debuted as "friendly fox" in Outfoxing The Foxes in 1998 and as the "pivot" in 29 Reasons Not To Be A Nice Guy, in 1999), to solve the problem of AFC "nice guys" who go out "as friends" with gorgeous women. In Ray's case, they resorted to plagiarism, or they would repackage the free postings (and commercial works) as "internet seduction secrets," or whatever. Now some gurus actually attempt to certify other gurus, as if seduction were now some accredited academic discipline (it is, but you need adavanced degrees in neuroscience).

5. They make their money off "whales." Do the math: sell one thousand e-books at $30.00 each, and you make $30,000.00. Sell a thousand bootcamps, however, and you make $3 million! The result is that most of the audience doesn't think of the message boards they are on as "commercial," becuase they aren't thinking of spending on a bootcamp. Instead, they focus on the free information put there to lure the whales, thinking they are getting useful advice, rather than "whale biat" marketing designed to get the few hundred people a year they need to make the millions. The bootcamp gurus also won't tell you that they encourage piracy of e-books, so as to harm their competitors economically.

About Bettor Off Single

In one of his more questionable short-term business decisions, Ray took the proceeds of the infamous Magic $20.00 winning streak, and all of 2009, to finish Bettor Off Single, his signature dating-advice text. The full year of reflection, on the cusp of middle-age, reads much like the memoir of a retired professional athlete, performing a meticulous post-mortem on his entire career.

Bettor Off Single's many lessons are framed against the backdrop of a biographical narrative of Ray's love life, beginning with his first kiss, in his early teens, and ending with his "last hurrah" a few years ago. With this text, Ray has "put a lid" on disclosures about his love life, as the "game" run by middle-aged men is of little theoretical value to men in their prime. One advantage Ray has over his younger rivals is that, because his "lay reports" and mishaps are up to a quarter-century removed, "target privacy" is much easier to protect, compared to a guru who cannot really write about his current relationship so easily. As for Ray proving his skills in the field, you're about twenty-five years late for his best nightlife work!

In Bettor Off Single, you will learn the following crucial seduction theory, in a logical sequence which you may easily apply to your own development as a PUA:
